Lajka’s Adventures: The Spirit of Exploration

Lajka, a lively Alpine Dachsbracke, has been a part of my family for nearly four months. Recently, she has shown a newfound sense of adventure, venturing out to explore her surroundings. Initially, she would stick close to home during walks, but now she is embracing her curious spirit and delving into the neighboring fields and forests.

Peace of Mind with GPS Tracking

To ensure the safety of all my pets, including Lajka, I equip them with GPS collars. Lajka, being a unique character, has already managed to lose one collar in the short time she has been with us. While her tendency to stay close to home initially worried me, living in a remote area without nearby roads alleviates some of that concern. With the GPS collar, I can monitor her movements and track her adventures, providing me with a sense of security.

A Three-Hour Digging Saga

During one of our walks last week, Lajka exhibited her usual playful behavior, frolicking around but staying within sight. However, she soon became engrossed in digging a hole and refused to return home, remaining over a mile away. Curious to see her reaction, I decided to let her be and observe from a distance.

For the next three hours, Lajka dedicated herself to the task at hand, finally returning home well after her usual time. Covered in dirt but visibly content, she had found joy in her independent exploration and had an innate sense of her way back home.

Embracing Freedom and Trust

This experience of allowing Lajka to follow her instincts and explore independently has been a significant step for me. While my other dog, Lava, has her own tendencies to wander off, I am learning to trust their instincts and intelligence to navigate their surroundings safely. Living in a tranquil environment, I am gradually letting go of my anxieties and embracing the freedom that my dogs deserve.

As I continue to adapt to this new dynamic, I am grateful for the lessons in trust and allowing my furry companions the space to roam and discover. While it may take time for me to fully adjust to this newfound freedom, I am committed to supporting their adventures and growth.
